UBC Farm

Mohammad’s sister was volunteering at the UBC Farm so we thought that we would visit and draw at the same time. The only animals are chickens but there is a a lot of plant life and some beautiful flowers and berries.

Kew Park

Shelley just moved to West Vancouver and her parents found a tinny park that is a few minutes and two very steep hills away from her house. Today was just a really quick and relaxing time in the shade.

Whytecliff Park

So we have discovered a small park near Horseshoe Bay in West Vancouver. There is practically no one there on weekdays, but come Saturday it is almost impossible to park. We did managed to find the overflow parking lot that is not to far from the main park. This place has great lookout points to draw the beach from up high. Mohammad and Shelley drew the same island that was just off shore.

Commercial Drive

Today was a bit cloudy and we didn’t want to get caught in the rain so we went to JJ Bean on Commercial. There are usually a couple of costumers that stay still enough to draw. Afterwards we wanted to draw something else so we walked up the street, found a bench to sit on, and worked on perspective.

McSpadden Park

Today we just kept thing simple and went to the park right by Mohammad’s place. Most of the time there are dogs playing but today there was only people tanning. Shelley drew in pencil while Mohammad stuck with brush pen.

Anomaly 2012

We are back at the Beaty Biodiversity Museum at UBC for a special event, Anomaly. It is a event showcasing concept art from artists in North America. Mohammad was a volunteer and drew when he had free time, while Shelley hanged out and drew in her big sketchbook all day. One of the events was a drawing session with 2 live birds and Terryl Whitlatch, an accomplished scientifically and academically trained illustrator who is known for her concept art for STAR WARS (she is so cool).

Beaty Biodiversity Museum

Mohammad’s roommate Jake (shown in the 7th image taking a picture of Mohammad taking a picture) was planning on going to UBC to draw, so we thought that we would tag along. Most museums discourage artists from drawing, but this place loves it when people come to draw. They even gave you a stool so you could sit wherever you want. It is a great place to draw birds, heads of perissodatylas (horse-like animals), skulls, and fish in jars. What isn’t in this museum that we would of liked to see some of are cats, and dogs. Shelley just drew birds all day, doing a rough sketch in colored pencil and then shading with a brush pen. Mohammad drew a few different things with a variety of different pens and pencils, but today he experimented with the color blue.
